Paper Trail Synopsis

Flying into the fray. Defeating evil. Rescuing the damsel. All while showcasing an impeccable knack for martial arts.

For Zach, a fledgling comic book writer, this type of heroism exists only on paper. In reality, he constantly finds himself on the short end of the stick, whether it concerns creative inspiration or impressing his girlfriend Erica’s father, a prominent newspaper executive. All this changes in the blink of an eye when, after finding their daily paper destroyed, Erica and her father are kidnapped by an anonymous, sadistic individual. Suddenly, Zach finds himself with an opportunity to be the kind of hero he’s only dreamed of his entire life.

Director’s Statement

For me Paper Trail was a labour of love.

The very first project that I ever worked on was a one minute short film with a kid named Davin Tong. The film was about a guy who hides in the trunk of his neighbour’s car and waits for the neighbour to show up so he can fight him to the death with a lightsaber. [ Read More... ]

Zach – Male – 28
Zach has lost his confidence in himself and his work as a comic book writer. He lets Jim’s constant belittlements get to his head almost to the point to where he thinks he’s useless.

Jim – Male -55
Jim is a crusty widower and old time newspaper man. He takes out his anger and frustrations in his life on Travis as he perceives him to be an easy target. He loves his daughter very much and wants nothing but the best for her.

Erica – Female – 27
Erica is a strong independent woman who has struggled to get out of her famous father’s shadow to create her own legacy. She loves both her father and Zach very much.

Wally – Male – 16
Wally is the neighborhood paperboy. He works hard to earn his money and survives off of his tips. He has very little patience for people who don’t tip and hates his father for constantly ignoring him.

Hitman – Male – 25
Not much is known about this hitman and where he comes from. What is known is that he will take on any job no matter how big or small. He would rather die than see a job incomplete.

Assassin – Male – 25
Even less is known about this assassin. What people have been able to put together is that he likes hiding in shadows and undercutting his competition.
