Let Pie Gones Be Pie Gones
Jun 6th
“Let Pie Gones Be Pie Gones” is a script that I wrote in 2007 while I was attending VFS. It’s a short film comedy shot on the EX1 about Marc, a pie loving twenty something who has just received his annual pie baked by his grandmother. When Marc arrives home he warns his two roommates Keith and Gordon not to eat his pie. Keith ignores this request and sparks a war that sends Marc spiraling down a path of craziness, which leads to what can only be considered one of the most action packed, explosive fork fights in the history of film-making.
Sadly my script was never chosen for production while I attended film school, I knew it had enough merit to warrant being filmed at some point in my career. In late 2008 early 2009 I dusted off the script and sent it to Crash (who had become my go to actor) who immediately loved it. Because of my commitments with King of the Stage, Fred Rock 09 and Paper Trail I wasn’t able to pull anything together.
In March/April of this year, Crash had brought up the idea of shooting “Pie Gones” again. I looked at my film schedule this year and found a crack in May. I quickly put together a budget/shooting schedule and then called upon some of my old 48 hour crew to help out. I also put together a package for the NB Film COOP to see if they could help relieving me of the financial burden of renting gear. (which thankfully they did)
Stay posted to read about the onset exploits.

Hey gang,
Here’s a quick update about what’s going in the world of Gradual Upgrade.
Paper Trail is coming along slowly (a month and a half more slowly than I was hoping for) but surely. The score is about 85% done, and let me tell you, it gets the adrenaline flowing and really adds another great layer to the film. The special effects, specifically the explosions are looking pretty sweet. Nils has shown me a few shots, and wow, me likey. Foley is also being worked on as I type. Almost everyone sound you hear in the film was created specifically for the movie. No pre-existing library here folks. Once all that stuff is done, then I have to deal with slight ADR issues and the dialog edit. Once that’s out of the way then it’s a final mix (5.1). While all this is going on there’s also color correction happening. Still working on getting that in with Technicolor, slight hiccup with that, I think my DP is still trapped in Germany!
Besides “Paper Trail” I’m fast tracking a script I wrote over two years ago when I was Vancouver Film School titled, “Let Pie Gones Be Pie Gones” Its a nine minute revenge comedy involving pies and a ridiculous fight sequence (something my films have been come to be known for) The film stars Ryan “Crash” Barton who has been my go to actor for many of my “for fun” films. If you haven’t seen him before check him out here, here and here. Principle photography will begin at the end of May. Who knows how long will post will take.
I’m flying to Vancouver in July for two weeks. While I’m out there I’m hoping to shoot a quick two day short called “In Ted’s Head”, I still don’t really know what this film is about as it’s still in very rough shape.
The fall brings one more project before I go back into the “big leagues” and begin a film that will make “Paper Trail” look like child’s play. The fall project is a drama which is still missing a title. The script seems to divide people into two camps. People who get it, and people who don’t. My DP calls it my pretentious script, which I guess is a fair assessment.
Once all that is done, well then it’s onto my biggest project ever. This thing is not a feature, it will most likely have a run time of 20 to 30 minutes. It’s got action, drama and lots and lots of special effects. Both practical and CG. My brain is hurting just thinking about how big it is.
Will keep you posted as things happen.

Hey everyone, I just inked a deal with MMA Elite One “First Blood”! I’ve shot a lot of live stuff before, but this is the first time that I’ve ever filmed guys beating the living hell out of each other. If you’re in Moncton, NB I suggest picking up tickets and having a look see, should be a good time. Here’s their website.
Thanks!

Hey everyone, just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who’s watched the teaser and has left comments. Everyone worked really hard to get this film from paper to the screen. Keep coming back to see updates on Paper Trail and other films that I have on the go.

The teaser trailer
Apr 6th
The last time I posted anything about Paper Trail was back sometime in September while we were shooting the beast! Lets fast forward almost 7 months to the release of the new teaser trailer. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m seriously excited to get this thing into the public. I’ve been sitting on the finished trailer for months, biding my time to release it. Why did I wait so long you ask? Well because a certain internet super star wanted to do a video release of it as well, however he already had several videos and a national promo campaign that he was working on. We bated back and fourth on the official release date and decided that today was that day!
So, if you haven’t watched the teaser yet, what are you still doing here! Click here and go watch it! Enjoy!
